Easy to Use

A number of Sony MHS-PM5 reviewers who reviewed it reckoned that it was easy to use. Arheddis Varkenjaab wrote in their review of the Sony MHS-PM5 “Very simple to use, just press 'record'” and scored it 80 out of 100. Emma E scored the product 80 out of 100 and she said in her review of this camcorder on Amazon “Really easy to use too”. Emma E also wrote “She is thinking of getting one (she's 60) as it's so easy to use and has a nice large viewing screen!”.

Good Product Quality

Robust

Some Sony MHS-PM5 owners wrote that the Sony MHS-PM5 was well made. J. S. Hardman wrote in their review of this camcorder on Amazon six years ago “My mobile phone has a reasonable video camera built in.”. Five years ago Richard mentioned in his review of the Sony MHS-PM5 “Feels solid enough, software loads easily on windows7”. Avhub.com.au wrote “Solid HD video”.

A few customers who reviewed it agreed that it was strong and durable.

One person who reviewed this camcorder considered that it was reliable. J. One Sony MHS-PM5 owner considered that this camcorder was not good in terms of HDMI connections. Dr. D. E. Goldwater wrote “It has no HDMI output so it is a bit silly calling it an HD camcorder as you cannot play back in HD directly onto the HD TV” in their Sony MHS-PM5 review.

Not Full HD

Like most of the other camcorders of a comparable age and type to the MHS-PM5, the Sony MHS-PM5 is not Full HD.

If you would prefer a video camera that is Full HD then you might want to look at the PXW-FS7K (£8,129.00), or the PMW-300 (£6,499.00) both from Sony or the Polaroid ID975HD which also has a higher rating.

Does Not Have an Image Stabiliser

Like most of the other video cameras of this spec and age, the MHS-PM5 does not have an image stabiliser.

We compared all the other video cameras which also have an image stabiliser to this video camera and we think the Thinkware TW-X500, or the JVC GY-HM150 is also worth considering.

The Sony MHS-PM5 does not have an HDMI port. Most of the other camcorders that are a similar age to the MHS-PM5 also do not have an HDMI port.

Most camcorders of this type and age do not have an interchangeable lens. The MHS-PM5 is no exception to this as it too does not have an interchangeable lens.

Other camcorders which also have an interchangeable lens that you might want to consider include the PMWEX3, the HXR-NX30, or the PMW100 (£96.35) all from Sony which also has a higher rating.

Quite Small Screen Size

The screen sizes of camcorders of this age and spec range from 1.3" to 11", and the average screen size is 3.2". The MHS-PM5 has one of the smaller screen sizes (only 2.4 inches) amongst video cameras of this age.

The MHS-PM5 is not waterproof. Most of the other video cameras that have been on the market for a similar time to the MHS-PM5 are also not waterproof.

If you are looking for a video camera that is waterproof then you might also want to look at the Air Pro Lite ActION, or the The Game ActION both from ION or the HTC RE Digital Camera which is also higher rated.

We compared this video camera to all the other video cameras with a night mode and we think the F-500G, or the F-500 (£86.26) both from HP or the Transcend DrivePro 200 (£77.86) is also worth considering.

The MHS-PM5 is not 3D compatible, although this is within the context that most of the other camcorders that came out around the same time as the MHS-PM5 are also not 3D compatible.
