The Lumix DMC-TZ40 has a better sensor type than most digital cameras of a similar age and spec to it. This camera has a MOS sensor type, whereas most digital cameras that were released more than two years ago have a CCD sensor type.

There are a number of alternative digital cameras that have a MOS sensor currently available that you might want to look at including the Lumix DMC-LX7, or the Lumix DMC-TZ60 (£238.99) both from Panasonic which has better reviews.

If the sensor type of this camera is too bad for you then you might want to look at the Samsung GC100 (£259.74) (CMOS), or the Sony DSC-RX100 (£269.99) (CMOS) which is also higher rated.
