Pcmag.com wrote in their review of the Acer S231HL on expert review site PC Mag “The Acer S231HL is an affordable 23-inch monitor offering three video ports” but they only rated the Acer S231HL 60 out of 100. Expert website Apcmag.com said “It´s actually getting hard to tell them apart, with most new screens offering great specs at affordable prices” and rated the Acer S231HL 4 stars. Expert review site Evogadget.com wrote in their review of the Acer S231HL “The Acer S231HL belongs to the category of very affordable monitors and its performance is not as bad as you would expect”.

Good Environmental Credentials

One customer who bought it reckoned that it was good in terms of power usage. Five years ago Digitalversus.com said on expert website Digital Versus “The S231HL is thin, energy efficient and has virtually no input lag” in their review.

Good Brand

Based on 3,487 expert and owner reviews, Acer has good reviews for its PC screens. Acer also has good reviews specifically within its medium monitors range compared to other brands.

Fairly Wide Vertical Viewing Angle

7 Reasons Against

Poor Expert Reviews

The average expert rating of this PC screen is 64 out of 100 based on five expert reviews from sites including Digital Versus, PC Mag, apcmag.com and Les Numeriques.com. This means that PC monitor experts really don't rate this PC display very highly.

Inferior Picture Quality

One Acer S231HL owner considered that this PC monitor did not have a good contrast ratio. Digitalversus.com mentioned in their review of this PC monitor on expert website Digital Versus “Although Philips still holds the record for the most ridiculous claim about contrast ratio at 20 000 000”.

Does Not Have a Built-In Speaker

The Acer S231HL does not have a built-in speaker, although this is within the context that most of the other medium monitors that have been on the market for more than two years also do not have a built-in speaker.

Very crisp clean text. Bright with great detail in lower levels. There is much more definition in the dark objects coming from a traditional LCD. No ghosting in games
Big plus is the power button is not one what will blind you as the majority of the light is aimed to the base and you just get the reflected blue. Sorry it will not be your night light thank you Acer
I would say that the my monitor came out of the box looking a little blue very minor and some prefer the display to have a blue white
The monitor is extremely light and thin
Its boss. I was thinking of getting the asus 20" for the same price, good thing Im not a dumb sweed: same responce 5ms), same rez, same hippy green NARNIA back-lite , but 23" or 20" for the same DOUG
I have only used this for a few hours so I can not say for certain that all will be well but so far it is flawless
Stand really does suck dudes, sorry its the truth. On board monitor controls are for dummies who want to remain dummies. UPS Fs with me because I don't own brown shorts, like a child
It looks like UPS gave the box a stress test on purpose. No option to send by Fedex or someone else. Logistics Stand on your new monitor. The stand is no good and monitor buttons are stupid, but it is
None found so far
