We calculated the average ratings for all Epson data projectors and also specifically for Epson projectors and found that in both cases Epson had good ratings compared to other brands.

Good Product Quality

Several customers concluded that the product was good quality. Pcmag.com wrote “The Epson PowerLite 98 XGA 3LCD Projector delivers a bright image, excellent quality for data screens, watchable video”. Two years ago Pc Mag mentioned in their review of the Epson PowerLite 98 “Excellent quality for data images”.

Reasonably Priced

One person who reviewed this projector concluded that it was cheap. Pcmag.com mentioned on expert website PC Mag “If you're looking for a reasonably low-cost XGA projector that's the right brightness for a a small room” in their review of the Epson PowerLite 98.

Has a Built-In Speaker

Unlike most of the other multimedia projectors of a comparable type and age to the PowerLite 98 which do not have a built-in speaker, the Epson PowerLite 98 has a built-in speaker.

Alternative projectors with a built-in speaker currently available that you might also want to consider include because of it's better review score, the Optoma HD25 (£550.00).

1600 X 1200 (UXGA) Graphics Resolution

The highest resolution supported by the PowerLite 98 is 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). That's over six times the resolution of the most frequently found graphics resolution of 640 x 480 (VGA) (which is also supported by this projector). In addition, this Epson projector support graphics resolutions of 1280 x 800, 1280 x 960, 1440 x 1050, 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) and 1366 х 768 and 800 x 600 (SVGA). Across all data projectors of this type and age the worst resolution is 640 x 480 (VGA) and the best is 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA).

Does Not Support 3D Image Projection

The PowerLite 98 does not support 3D image projection, unlike most of the other projectors of a comparable age and type to the PowerLite 98 which support 3D image projection.

We think you might also be interested in other projectors which also support 3D image projection including the Benq W7000+, the Panasonic PT-RZ470, or the Epson PowerLite 4650 which also has a higher rating.

Does Not Support Full HD Projection

The Epson PowerLite 98 does not support Full HD projection, although this is within the context that most of the other data projectors of this spec and age also do not support Full HD projection.

Other projectors which also support Full HD projection that you might also want to look at include the Benq W7000+, the Panasonic PT-RZ470, or the Epson PowerLite Pro G6900WU which also has a higher rating.

Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity

Most projectors that are a similar age to the PowerLite 98 do not support WiFi connectivity. The Epson PowerLite 98 is no exception to this as it too does not support WiFi connectivity.

We compared this multimedia projector to all the other multimedia projectors with a WiFi connectivity and we think the Benq GP20 (£566.00) is also worth considering.

The PowerLite 98 has a maximum resolution of XGA (1024x768). That's 62% less resolution than the most common native projector resolution of 1080p (1920x1080). The resolution of all projectors that have been around for a comparable time to the PowerLite 98 ranges from SVGA (800x600) (worst) to 1080p (1920x1080) (best).

Quite Loud Noise Level

Projectors that have been available for around the same time as the PowerLite 98 have noise levels of between 20dB and 47dB, and the average noise level is 32dB. The PowerLite 98 has one of the louder noise levels (37 decibels) amongst similar spec data projectors of this age.
