6 Reasons For
Vivitek Has Good Reviews for Its Projectors
Multimedia projectors produced by Vivitek are some of the better multimedia projectors according to average reviews from experts and owners.
Just Released Eight Months Ago
Vivitek only released the DX977 eight months ago.
Has a Built-In Speaker
The Vivitek DX977 has a built-in speaker. Most of the other 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors that are a similar age to the DX977 also have a built-in speaker.
Alternative multimedia projectors with a built-in speaker currently available which you might also want to look at include the IN2128HDX[pl_3899230_price], or the IN128HDSTX[pl_3451178_price] both from Infocus or the Optoma DU400[plb_3419204_price] which is cheaper.
Very Bright Projector Brightness
Across all the projectors that have been on the market for the last year the projector brightness range from 2,000 ANSI lumens to 6,000 ANSI lumens, and the average projector brightness is 3,700 ANSI lumens. When compared to other comparable spec projectors that came out around the same time as the DX977 that we have checked the projector brightness of, the Vivitek DX977's projector brightness of 6,000 ANSI lumens is one of the brightest.
Very Big Matrix Size
New comparable spec multimedia projectors have matrix sizes of between 0.55" and 0.7", and the average matrix size is 0.62". With a matrix size of 0.7 inches, the Vivitek DX977 has a very big matrix size compared to most of the other recently released 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors.
Three VGA (D-Sub) Ports
The Vivitek DX977 is a three VGA (D-Sub) port projector.

6 Reasons Against
Does Not Support 3D Image Projection
The Vivitek DX977 does not support 3D image projection. Most of the other multimedia projectors that are a comparable age to the DX977 also do not support 3D image projection.
We compared all the other projectors which also support 3D image projection to this multimedia projector and we think the IN2128HDX[pl_3899230_price], or the IN128HDSTX[pl_3451178_price] both from Infocus or the Optoma DU400[plb_3419204_price] which is also cheaper is also worth considering.
Does Not Support Full HD Projection
Most of the other recently released 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors support Full HD projection, however the Vivitek DX977 does not support Full HD projection.
There are a number of other data projectors which also support Full HD projection which you might want to look at including the IN2128HDX[pl_3899230_price], or the IN128HDSTX[pl_3451178_price] both from Infocus or the Optoma DU400[plb_3419204_price].
Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity
Most 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors that have been available for around the same time as the DX977 do not support WiFi connectivity. The Vivitek DX977 is no exception to this as it too does not support WiFi connectivity.
Only XGA (1024x768) Native Projector Resolution
The highest resolution of the Vivitek DX977 is XGA (1024x768). That's 62% less resolution than the most frequently found native projector resolution of 1080p (1920x1080).
This projector's resolution (XGA (1024x768)) is actually the worst resolution across all latest comparable spec multimedia projectors.
The best resolution across similar types of projector is WUXGA (1920x1200).
+3 More reasons against
The weights of data projectors that came out in the last year range from 2.3g to 4.6kg, and the average weight is 2.8kg. With a weight of 4 kilograms, the Vivitek DX977 is fairly heavy compared to most of the other 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors that are a comparable age to the DX977.
After checking the price of 13 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors that have been on the market for the last year they range in price from £334 to £1,649. We think that this projector looks expensive compared to other 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors that have been on the market for the last year.
2 Other reasons to consider the Vivitek DX977
OK Running Costs
Based on average energy prices and usage levels we estimate that the 1 year running cost of the DX977 is £123, which is typical compared to the other 18 15000:1 contrast ratio projectors that came out in the last 12 months.
Average Noise Level
The Vivitek DX977 has a pretty standard noise level (36 decibels) compared to most of the other new similar spec projectors.
If you are not bothered about having a louder noise level then you might also want to consider the Infocus IN128HDSTX[plb_3451178_price] (34dB) which is also cheaper.
