Black Friday is the day after American Thanksgiving, and usually takes place on the 4th Friday of November. Traditionally it’s seen as the start of Christmas shopping season, but in the last few years it’s very much become an event in it’s own right, and a sale to rival the January sales in terms of deals!
This year for the first time Kagoo is joining in on the action! We’ll be collecting together the biggest and best deals for you to view in one convenient place - with up-to-date price information, details on the products and spec comparison to help you get the best deal you can!
Traditionally the deals start at just past midnight on the morning of the 24th - however in recent years more and more retailers have been putting up their offers early to beat the competitors. Therefore we will be adding early deals as-and-when we find them, so make sure you check back regularly as we get close to the 24th!
So what will be on sale?
Anything and everything! We are expecting large discounts on almost all areas of the site, from vacuum cleaners to fridges to PC monitors! However historically Black Friday deals tend to focus on consumer electronics, so the largest number of deals will be focused on:
* Digital Cameras
In previous years discounts have ranged between 30-60% off the standard price, but deals are frequently very limited - so if you see a good deal, pounce on it immediately!
What exactly is Black Friday?
Black Friday was officially recognised in 1952, and is historically heralded as the start of the American Christmas shopping season, and so the start of shops trying to tempt shoppers with Christmas offers. In the last few years the emphasis has less been on preparing for Christmas, and more on a 1 day of extreme price reductions and enormous sales! In 2014 Americans spent an estimated $50 billion on Black Friday,
Over the last 5 years or so, Black Friday has also become synonymous with the darker areas of consumerism - near riots, stampedes as the shops open, fights for the last sale items and unreasonably long shifts for the staff. With this in mind, there has been an increased shift towards buying Black Friday deals online rather than in stores, which has led to the rise of ‘Cyber Monday’.
What is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday was originally the second ‘wave’ of Black Friday deals - after the dust had settled from Black Friday, any leftover stock was put up for sale online. However with the rise of online shopping over fighting other customers in-store, Cyber Monday has become almost as big as Black Friday itself - indeed in 2014 Americans spent $2 billion on Cyber Monday. While this is a fraction of Black Friday’s sales, analysts reckon that the drop in spendings on Black Friday (down from $57b in 2013 to $50b in 2014) mirrors the rise of Cyber Monday, as consumers stay home to shop in comfort rather than rising at 5am to wait out in the cold!
Cyber Monday and the online sales have become so prevalent that they no longer stop at Monday - many large retailers continue their online sales through the next few days after Black Friday, leading to what has been dubbed ‘Cyber Week’. Have no fear - here at Kagoo we will be serving up the best deals throughout the week, so keep an eye on this page for all your TV and electrical needs!
