The VP-X300 has an image stabilizer. Most of the other video cameras of a similar age and spec to this camcorder also have an image stabilizer.

We compared all the other camcorders with an image stabilizer to this video camera and we think the Vixia HF M40, and the Vixia HF R40 both from Canon which has better reviews is also worth considering.

Very Small Optical Zoom

The smallest optical zoom of camcorders that came out more than two years ago is 10x and the biggest is 78x. At only 10 times zoom factor, the VP-X300 has a fairly small optical zoom compared to most of the other comparable spec video cameras that have been on the market for around the same time as this video camera.

There are a number of alternative 10x (optical) video cameras currently available which you might want to look at including the Vixia HF M40, or the Legria HF G10 both from Canon which has better reviews.

If this video camera optical zoom is not big enough for you then you might want to look at the Sony HXR-NX3-VG1 (20x).

Very Small Digital Zoom

At only 100 times zoom factor, the VP-X300 has a fairly small digital zoom compared to most of the other small total megapixels camcorders that came out around the same time as this video camera. Across all the small total megapixels camcorders that were released more than two years ago the digital zooms range from 1.5x to 3,500x, and the average digital zoom is 720x.

If you want a bigger digital zoom then you might also want to look at the Sony HDR-PJ620 (350x) which is also higher rated.
