Other video cameras which also have an image stabilizer that you might also want to look at include the Sony HDR-CX730E, the Canon ZR50MC, or the HTC RE Digital Camera which also has a higher rating.

Not Full HD

Like most of the other video cameras of a similar type and age to the MHS-PM5, the MHS-PM5 is not Full HD.

If you are looking for a video camera that is Full HD then you might want to consider the Sony HDR-CX730E, the GoPro Hero 3+ (£150.00), or the ION Air Pro 3 WiFi ActION which also has a higher rating.

Does Not Have an Interchangeable Lens

Most similar spec camcorders that were launched around the same time as the MHS-PM5 do not have an interchangeable lens. The Sony MHS-PM5 is no exception to this as it too does not have an interchangeable lens.

It is worth considering other video cameras which also have an interchangeable lens including the PMWEX3, the HXR-NX30, or the PMW100 all from Sony which also has a higher rating.

The smallest display diagonal of camcorders that have been available for more than two years is 1.3", the largest is 11", and the average display diagonal is 3.2". The Sony MHS-PM5 has a quite small display diagonal (only 2.4 inches) compared to most of the other camcorders that have been available for around the same time as the MHS-PM5.

If you are looking for a larger display diagonal then you might want to look at the Transcend DrivePro 200 (£64.95) (2.4015761"), the Canon ZR50MC (2.5"), or the Panasonic HC-V270EB (2.6377967") which also has a higher rating.

If you want a video camera that is waterproof then you might want to consider the Air Pro Lite ActION (£74.98), or the Air Pro 3 WiFi ActION both from ION or the HTC RE Digital Camera which also has a higher rating.

The MHS-PM5 does not have a built-in projector, although this is within the context that most of the other camcorders of this type and age also do not have a built-in projector.

We compared this video camera to all the other video cameras with a built-in projector and we think the HDR-PJ420E (£499.99), or the HDR-PJ820 (£659.99) both from Sony which is also higher rated is also worth considering.
