All 3D TVs will also display regular 2D content and most will allow you to switch on and off the 3D effect on 3D content. These shutters constantly open and close very quickly in sync with two different images that are being displayed by the TV. This ensures that the correct image is displayed to each eye. The main advantage of active 3D is that the image is brighter, however the glasses are heavier and more expensive.
